About Coweta
Coweta was originally part of the Creek Nation in Indian Territory before Oklahoma became a U.S. state. The town was first settled in 1840. In 1843, Robert Loughridge, a Presbyterian minister, arrived in the area and established a mission, named “Koweta“. Coweta is experiencing tremendous growth with numerous new single-family subdivisions, several multi-family developments being planned, and an abundance of new commercial and retail developments in progress. The City of Coweta works with many partners to ensure well-planned growth, successful development of the area’s economy, and preservation of our friendly small-town character.
